About the Digital Workplace Data & Analytics Platform:

The Digital Workplace Data & Analytics Platform—powered by AI/ML—integrates data from multiple sources such as Unified Workspace, Collaboration, and Colleague Servicing platforms. It delivers real-time insights on user experience, health scoring, productivity, and IT visibility by combining data from HR, Information Security, and network systems.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Engineer of the Digital Workplace Data & Analytics Platform, you will lead the engineering team to:

  • Develop advanced data engineering pipelines

  • Implement data management processes

  • Drive automation and best practices on a cloud platform (GCP)

Your work will shape the next generation of AI-driven analytics that enhance colleague experiences and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Implement Solutions:

    • Build and manage production-grade data pipelines using Spark.

    • Lead data ingestion (real-time & batch), data governance, and data DevOps on GCP.

  • Collaboration & Innovation:

    • Work with Product Management and Digital Workplace teams to influence key technical decisions.

    • Partner with cross-functional teams to design scalable, reliable, and cost-effective data solutions.

  • Technology Leadership:

    • Bring thought leadership and stay up to date with the latest advancements in cloud technologies and data engineering.

    • Strengthen collaboration with industry partners and conduct market research for innovative solutions.

  • Platform Strategy:

    • Develop and execute the Data & Analytics strategy aligned with American Express' broader technology vision.

    • Establish best practices and drive enterprise-level solutions.

  • Operational Excellence:

    • Ensure reliability engineering and platform monitoring for handling millions of requests.

    • Participate in agile team meetings and reviews while improving automation processes.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in data engineering with a focus on cloud platforms (GCP is mandatory).

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Spark: Extensive experience in building production-grade data pipelines.

    • Data Ingestion: Strong knowledge of real-time and batch data ingestion methods.

    • Big Data: Experience with Hadoop and at least one production-level Big Data implementation.

    • Visualization Tools: Exposure to ElasticSearch, Tableau, Power BI, etc.

    • Cloud Platforms: GCP knowledge is mandatory; AWS and Azure experience is a plus.

    • AI/ML Pipelines: Willingness to learn and implement AI/ML solutions for data-driven insights.

  • Leadership & Communication:

    • Ability to guide and mentor engineers.

    • Strong communication skills to present findings and collaborate across business units.

  • Agility & Program Management:

    • Expertise in Agile, SAFe, and Program Management methodologies.

    • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments while collaborating effectively.
